Title:
Fluorescence from doubly excited states of Helium
Abstract:The doubly
excited states of He where one electron is excited in
the N=2 level and the
other one to a Rydberg orbital are embedded in the
ionization continuum and
were believed to decay essentially by
autoionization. It is only recently
that the importance of the competing
fluorescence decay path was discovered.
Its study draws light on the
spectroscopy of these states, on their
lifetimes, on the formation of
'forbidden' triplet doubly excited states and
on the strong correlation
between the 2 excited
electrons.
